Joachim Schätz

Joachim Schätz is a postdoctoral University Assistant at the University of Vienna’s Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies. He leads the FWF-funded project “Educational Film Practice in Austria” (2019–2022, P 32343-G), which is carried out in collaboration with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History. Useful cinema and ephemeral films are one main focus of his research, including a dissertation on Austrian industrial and advertising film (published in 2019), and collaboration on the web publication Mapping Colin Ross (2017, http://colinrossproject.net) about Vienna-born travelogue writer, filmmaker, and lecturer Colin Ross, both developed in third-party funded projects. Other areas of research and publication include the poetics and politics of comedy and theories of the detail. Most recently, he has co-edited an anthology on domestic thrillers, Gewohnte Gewalt. Häusliche Brutalität und heimliche Bedrohung im Spannungsfilm (Vienna 2022).
