Open Access Policy
Research in Film and History is an open-access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the users or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI (Budapest Open Access Initiative) definition of open access.
Research in Film and History does not levy any submission or article processing charges (APCs), or any other fees to publish, access the Journal's website, or read the published materials.

Copyright and publishing rights on articles is retained by the author(s).
All articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.

Research in Film and History does not levy article processing charges (APCs) or any other author fees to submit or publish an article.
Submission Process

Articles for New Approaches section are accepted on an ongoing basis and published throughout the year.
Research in Film and History welcomes contributions written in English.
Please submit proposal abstracts in MS Word file formats to film-history[AT]uni-bremen.de
A proposal abstract should be max. 300 words excluding the references (up to 5 works). If you do not have any references in the proposal abstract, please still write below up to 5 works that are key for your article.
All submitted articles should be original work and must not be under consideration by other publications.
Peer Review and Editorial Process
Each submitted text that is deemed eligible for publication is sent for double-blind peer review to external reviewers, experts in a particular field or subject. If double-blind peer review is not possible, the editors reserve the right to use a single-blind, open, or transparent peer review process to ensure the quality of publications.
On the basis of the reviews, the editors then make a decision on whether to accept without any changes, accept after minor revision, accept after major revision, send for a second peer review after major revision, or reject an article. Feedback will be provided to the author and, if considered necessary, suggestions and corrections will be given using Word’s Track Changes feature.
After any requested corrections have been carried out, the article will be copyedited, paying attention to accuracy, formatting, and language consistency. These changes will be submitted to authors for approval. Further changes may be then suggested by the General Editor.
Research in Film and History reserves the right to reject an article at any stage of the editing process.
Research in Film and History reserves the right not to publish an already revised article.
While no major alterations will be carried out without the author’s consent, the editors reserve the right to make minor editorial changes to any format, punctuation, grammar, or spelling errors.
Plagiarism Policy
Research in Film and History respects intellectual property. Articles submitted for the publication are checked with the PlagScan software.
Archiving Policy
To guarantee long-term preservation, Research in Film and History deposits the articles in the open access repository for academic publications in the field of film and media studies media/rep/, in the archive of the State and University Library Bremen, and the German National Library.

After your article is accepted for publication, please also provide:
- short biography (100–150 words) where you can include your recent publications and current projects (please find examples here: https://film-history.org/authors),
- short abstract (max. 70 words),
- keywords that include: up to six general keywords, up to three film titles, and up to three names that are central for your article.
For any audio and visual material used in your text, please download and fill this form.
Please indicate in the form where images/video/audio clips should appear in the text.
